چکیده
Cryptococcus neoformans isolates were previously obtained from pigeon droppings in Jakarta. This study aimed to determine another source of infection and describe the supporting niche fungus. The occurrence C. was evaluated 110 samples decaying wood leaves, tree hollow debris, dust, bird droppings. Yeasts collected 22 houses HIV-infected patients. identified based on culture characteristics, an assimilation test, URA5 restriction fragment length polymorphism polymerase chain reaction. spatial analysis conducted geographical information system dominant house environmental factors. Seven 120 (5.83%) as neoformans, corresponding four (18.2%) houses. All environments patients with cryptococcal meningitis. Spearman’s correlation McNemar’s test revealed a significant association between cryptococcosis their environment. clinical 100% identical molecular techniques, indicating that acquired soil, leaves distribution factors terms estimating disease prevalence. demonstrates environment is for cryptococcosis.

A network was established to acquire basic knowledge of Cryptococcus neoformans in IberoAmerican countries. To this effect, 340 clinical, veterinary, and environmental isolates from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Venezuela, Guatemala, and Spain were typed by using M13 polymerase chain reaction-fingerprinting and orotidine monophosphate pyrophosphorylase (URA5) gene restrictio...
متن کاملMolecular characterization of Cryptosporidium spp. from HIV infected patients from an urban area of Brazil.
Cryptosporidium spp. are important cause of enteric disease in humans, but may also infect animals. This study describes the relative frequency of several Cryptosporidium species found in human specimens from HIV infected patients in the São Paulo municipality obtained from January to July 2007. Sequence analysis of the products of nested-PCR based on small subunit rRNA and Cryptosporidium oocy...
متن کاملCryptococcus neoformans and C. gattii isolates from both HIV-infected and uninfected patients: antifungal susceptibility and outcome of cryptococcal disease
One of the factors causing treatment failure in cryptococcosis is the resistance of Cryptococcus spp. to antifungal drugs, which has motivated the susceptibility assessment of isolates from patients with cryptococcosis, different clinical conditions and infections outcomes. Clinical isolates of Cryptococcus spp. from three different groups of patients were studied in the present investigation: ...
متن کاملMolecular Epidemiology of Clinical Cryptococcus neoformans Isolates in Seoul, Korea
Cryptococcal infection is primarily caused by two species, Cryptococcus neoformans and C. gattii. Between the two species, C. neoformans var. grubii is the major causative agent of cryptococcosis in Asia. We investigated the molecular characteristics of 46 isolates of C. neoformans from patients with cryptococcosis between 2008 and 2012 in Seoul, Korea. All the isolates were determined to be C....
متن کاملMolecular typing of Cryptococcus neoformans serotype D clinical isolates.
Cryptococcus neoformans serotype A is responsible for the majority of cryptococcal infections in AIDS patients. In France, approximately 17% of the patients are infected with serotype D, regardless of their human immunodeficiency virus status. In a retrospective study of 273 patients, we found that serotype D was unevenly distributed in France. We wondered if this was related to the yeast's gen...
